Rimmel London Sweetie Crush – A Cheap Textured Thrill

Rimmel Sweetie Crush texture nail polish

If I have anything to say about it, sparkly texture is going nowhere, any time soon. I love it an I’m not afraid to shout it from the rooftops. So, naturally, when I came upon a Rimmel London Sweetie Crush display at my local Rite-Aid, I couldn’t leave without a couple. I mean, candy-colored glittery texture. Bargain basement pricing. How could I not?

#ManiMonday – Sally Hansen Pique Side Swatch & Review

Sally Hansen Piqué Side for Spring 2014 #ManiMonday

While I’m lucky to have an EXTREMELY patient and laid-back boyfriend, I’m sure he secretly hates that I can’t enter a drugstore without stalking the seasonal beauty section. And that I compulsively reorganize the area if colors are in the wrong spot. You’re welcome, Walgreens employees!

Over the years, I’ve narrowed down my fave locations of each drugstore chain based on which ones get the most seasonal nail polish displays. I’m not alone in this right? RIGHT?

For instance, I have a favorite Rite-Aid, which is where I picked up today’s Mani Monday shade, Sally Hansen Piqué Side. The new Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Color Vibrations “Pastels on Point” collection includes some fun, shimmery pastels and this minty green is a standout.

OPI Glitter Off Base Coat Review and Tutorial

Glitter nail polish is a party on the nails, that is, until it’s time to remove. That’s when it becomes all, you don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here.

Over the years, I’ve tried every possible method of removal and none of them are a joy. The soak-off (aka foil) method, using squares of felt, scrubby jar removers, straight up soaking in acetone. They all work but none of them are fast and pure acetone is SO drying.

Enter the peel-able glitter base. I’ve been using a mix of Elmer’s glue and water but OPI has released their own version, OPI Glitter Off Peelable Base Coat. I decided to put it to the test versus my DIY version in the video below. If you can’t see the embedded video click here.

OPI Glitter Off Peelable Base Coat is available at salons and spas nationwide including including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA and ULTA.com for $9/ea for a .5oz bottle.

So, is this something you will try? Have you tried making your own glitter base coat at home? Will a product like this get you to wear glitter more often?

Every time I visit Sephora or ULTA, I find myself perusing the brush and tool aisle, trying to rationalize why I need a specific brush, to go along with my 30+ brushes at home, or yet another pair of tweezers. I swear, they’re like the missing socks of beauty. Mine constantly disappear.

9 times out of 10, I leave tool-land empty-handed because I can’t justify the price when nail polish falls much higher on my hierarchy of needs. Enter, Urban Beauty United, a new-to-the-US line of affordable brushes and tools that include your everyday basics plus some standout items.
