We’re just a couple weeks away from the official start of fall and as much as I love summer weather I feel like we’ve been gypped with all the rain and cool temps. At this point, I’m over it and ready for boots, sweaters and jewel-toned nails. Enter, the Sally Hansen Fall 2013 Insta-Dri nail polish shades.

At first glance I wasn’t sure what to expect from these colors. Some of them appear rather frosty in the bottle but, as evidenced below, their looks are quite deceptive. I’m pleasantly surprised by the nail juice inside and I think you will be too.

Zoya Fall 2013 PixieDust Nail Polish Swatches & Review

I’ll admit, when I first tried textured nail polish, it skeeved me out. The feel was unusual and all I could think about was how lint, and possibly cat fur, would get stuck to it. But like some annoying person asking, “Do you like me? How about now? HOW ABOUT NOW?” it eventually wore me down. I blame Zoya PixieDust!

As much as I love a glossy nail, the mesmerizing, glitter-packed PixieDust polishes drew me in like a magpie. And while my affection has waned some over the past couple months, it’s back in full force thanks to the new Zoya Fall 2013 PixieDust shades. Check them out!

Essie Fall 2013 “For The Twill of It” Nail Polish Swatches & Review

If there’s one takeaway from my encounters over the years with Essie founder, Essie Weingarten, it’s that she loves fashion and color. Of all her seasonal collections, it’s the Essie Fall color palettes that express that best. Inspired by the textures and fabrics of the season, the Essie Fall 2013 “For The Twill of It” nail colors are rich, chic and utterly Essie.

“I love the idea of creating polish that’s like the proverbial boyfriend sweater – in this case, a blazer borrowed from the boys,” says brand founder and Global Creative Director Essie Weingarten. “Creating nail color with a warm and fuzzy feeling can be tricky,” Weingarten explains. “But when you get it right, it really is like putting on your favorite sweater.” Transferring the soft volumes and rich woolens of the fall runways, essie offers six seductively tactile shades that radiate beautifully tailored warmth.

Sunday Funday – Celebrating with the best ice cream cake EVER

It’s been a rough morning at ALU Headquarters. Last night we celebrated the boyfriend’s birthday in a most intoxicating way. A small party at home to welcome him to a new decade.

One of the first things I learned about him, over fourteen years ago, is that the man loves ice cream. More specifically, ice cream cake. He used to buy ice cream cakes from Dairy Queen for no special occasion. Just to have them.

So when his big 4-0 rolled around, I knew he needed a special cake. And thankfully we have an amazing artisinal ice cream shop nearby that specializes in just that. Sweetie Fry in Cleveland Heights is known for their unique, handmade ice cream flavors and entree french fries. My personal faves, Maple Bacon and Goat Cheese with nuts and honey.

In addition to traditional potato fries, they make funnel cake fries that become the base of the Sweetie Fry Ice Cream Cake. Topped with a layer of French Toast ice cream (one of the bf’s faves), it’s one ridiculously decadent treat.

We served this to a group of about 20 last night and every.single.one of them RAVED about it. It’s truly phenom and takes ice cream cake to a whole new level. If you live in the Cleveland area or come for a visit, I highly recommend an ice cream pit stop at Sweetie Fry.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Do you like the more unique flavors or the old standards? If  you’re from the area, have you been to Sweetie Fry?

The JINsoon Tibi nail polish collection for Fall 2013 is, in a word, SPARK-TACULAR! Known for her high fashion, glossy cremes, Jin Soon Choi, took a different route with her eponymous line when she teamed up with tibi designer, Amy Smilovic.

Sticking to her simple, sophisticated roots, Jin created five sparkling shades that are refined and elegant. Yet, adding a layer of the new Matte Maker top coat brings out the urban, utilitarian feel of Tibi’s fall line. Named after minerals and rocks, these shades hit on the jewel tone and vampy nail trends that are shaping up to be the theme of Fall 2013.
