Makeup Wars: Color Wars – Teal
I know I’ve mentioned it in the past but one of the best things to come from starting this blog is the people I’ve met. Readers, brand reps and my fellow beauty bloggers. My blogging buddies have become some of my closest friends, which is why I’m thrilled to be joining a group of my fave ladies in Makeup Wars!
Makeup Wars is a battle among bloggers to share their favorite products in a variety of topics; fave purple nail polish, best sunscreens, etc. This week is Color Wars! Each blogger in the group selected a shade to highlight and I chose TEAL!
I have an affection for teal since it combines two of my favorite shades, blue and green. And unlike Jennifer Lopez’s character in The Wedding Planner, I do not associate teal with “the color of gangrene.” It’s a fab accent color for eyes and simply stunning on nails.
Not only is teal shaping up to be one of the hot colors for Fall 2013, it’s also part of my FingerPaints A Pair Affair by All Lacquered Up collection. And today I’m thrilled to give you the first real look at FingerPaints Our Tips Are Tealed, paired with one of my all-time favorite eyeliners. Plus, I have three more gorgeous teal polishes to share.

Sunday Funday – Bethenny (aka My Friend in My Head)
Unless you’ve never seen Bravo (in which case, WHAT do you talk to your friends about?), you know who Bethenny Frankel is. The quick-witted, driven, hilariously funny woman who worked her ass off to turn Skinnygirl into an empire.
To steal a phrase from Wendy Williams, Bethenny is my “friend in my head.” I’ve been following her career from Martha Stewart’s The Apprentice, to RHONY to Bethenny, Getting Married? and Bethenny, Ever After and even watched that horrifyingly bad Skating With The Stars because she was on it.
During the seemingly endless lull between seasons, I kept lamenting that there wasn’t enough Bethenny in my daily life. Well, that ends September 9th with the debut of bethenny, her weekday talk show. I.CAN.NOT.WAIT!!
The clip below is one of the many reasons I’m a Bethenny fan. She’s fearless, letting people to see her in her natural state and experimenting with beauty, not knowing how it will turn out. Is her hair perfect in the end? No, but it’s also not some contrived segment where, in the end, her hair looks red carpet ready in a way we can never recreate. It’s real, it’s honest, it’s Bethenny. Her site is filled with gems like this.
Even better news, she’s coming to Cleveland, August 26th, as part of her Calling All My Girls Tour. She’s hitting nine cities leading up to the premiere, hosting exclusive fan events in each one. You have to tune in to your local affiliate to get tickets so head on over to Bethenny.com for all the details.
I really hope I get to meet her. Even though August 26th is the boyfriend’s birthday, he told me I should go (if I get a ticket) because he knows how much I adore Bethenny. Is he the best, or what??
ULTA Wants To Hear Your Beauty LOLs (Here’s Mine)
I could probably fill a separate blog with the beauty mistakes I’ve made over the years. My frugal nature has led me to many DIY beauty disasters. Like tweezing my formerly Brooke Shields-esque eyebrows to a Chola-style thinness because I couldn’t get them even. They’ve never truly recovered.
And I can’t be the only one traumatized by a Sun In incident as a teen. Trusting my BFF to evenly spray it on my hair resulted in a giant ORANGE patch. That was a fun fix. It actually led to that one year I was a blonde. Not a good look for me (though my mom would disagree).
Even better, being a blonde resulted in my 4-hair-colors-in-24-hours incident. I thought I could go from blonde back to brown using box dye in my natural shade. Wrong! Say hello to black, Witch Hazel hair. It gave new meaning to straw-like. Only one salon in town would see me the next day and they stripped my hair to bright purple (like Manic Panic purple) before bringing it back to my natural, reddish brown. Good times!
It’s tales like these that my friends at ULTA want to hear. While at BlogHer ’13 they had video booths available to share your Beauty LOLs, though you can submit them in writing as well. The best one will win $2000. I clearly didn’t understand the assignment when I recorded my video but I decided to share it with you anyway. No judgement!
So head on over to ULTABeautyLOLs.com to share your best beauty blunder and you could end up $2000 richer. Or just read some of the hilariously horrific tales from fellow beauty fanatics and ULTA Beauty LOLs spokesperson, Wendi McLendon-Covey.
Side note: Wendi was at BlogHer, hosting the fashion show and I ended up in the same elevator with her. But being a total fangirl, I was too frozen to speak or say hello. UGH! I’m probably one of a handful of people that watched her in Lovespring International on Lifetime but, find out what you missed on Hulu. HIGH-larious!
What are some of your Beauty LOLs? I shared with you, now it’s your turn. Don’t leave me hanging, peeps!
Mark Hill Salon Professional Hair Care Crosses The Pond
When it comes to my hair, there is nothing I love more than a good blowout. I seriously HATE drying my hair, there’s just so much of it, and my wrist usually gives out while round brushing so I never get a salon quality finish to my hair.
That’s why, when I was invited to meet British hairstylist Mark Hill at BlogHer ’13 in Chicago, to celebrate the launch of his product line in the US with a blowout, I jumped at the chance.
Mark Hill Salon Professional is coming to Walgreens and Duane Reade stores, with an affordable price point (under $12) and a brand new product line, MiracOILicious, that will have all you argan oil fans jumping for joy.
Not only did Mark style my hair but he introduced me to a hot tool that I’ll be waiting in line to buy when it comes to the US at the end of the year.
