China Glaze Let It Snow Holiday 2011 – Greens & Golds Swatches & Review
Oh the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful,
And since we’ve no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
We’ve already had our first snowfall of the season here in the CLE and the last thing I want to do is encourage it to come trickling down. However, that didn’t stop China Glaze, who is based in sunny California, from putting that earworm in my head.
For Holiday 2011, China Glaze introduces Let It Snow, a collection of twelve festive shades based on the season of giving.
When I previewed Let It Snow during my trip to Cosmoprof, I noticed that the collection’s display broke down the colors into three harmonious groups of four; Greens & Golds, Blue & Silvers and Reds. I decided to follow their lead and am starting with the Greens and Golds; Holly-Day, Glittering Garland, Twinkle Lights and Champagne Bubbles.

Calling All Tributes – China Glaze Hunger Games Collection Preview
Hunger Games fans get excited! I was catching up on some Hunger Games blogs when I read that China Glaze is coming out with a nail polish collection to coincide with the March 2012 release of the movie. I’m seriously so giddy over this, I can barely type. I devoured the trilogy in less than two weeks and it helped me rediscover how fun reading can be. Lame but true.
***EDITED TO ADD – While the collection has been confirmed by China Glaze, I have been informed by reps for Lionsgate that the details may not be accurate. I will update you when the colors and names are finalized.***
Even though I bitched about the casting on Twitter, I’m still excited to see the movie and love that the nail polish inspiration is listed with the colors.
Primrose - inspired by Prim
Rebel - inspired by Gale
Catnip - inspired by Katniss
Coal Hearted – inspired by District 12
Joined at the Seam – inspired by The Seam
Fight to the Finish – inspired by the night sky the Tributes look into
We Could Runaway – inspired by forest Katniss & Gale hunt in
Baker’s Son - inspired by Peeta
Cinna-mon – inspired by Cinna’s gold eyeliner
Fire in Flight - inspired by the Flaming Mockingjay
Heat of the Moment – inspired by the costumes Katniss & Peeta wear into the Arena
Flaming Gems – inspired by Katniss’ interview dress
Where are my fellow Hunger Games fans? Are you excited about this collection? I have to say, I’m happy to see a brand besides OPI partnering with the movie industry and I have every faith that they will do the film justice.
May the odds be ever in your favor
***EDITED TO ADD***
The legal drama that left all of us wondering whether this collection would ever surface has ended. The original swatches posted above are being thrown out and a new collection is being created based on The Capital. This is the official word from Lionsgate:
SANTA MONICA, CA (December 9, 2011) – Lionsgate announces that it has partnered with worldwide beauty brand China Glaze on a collection of nail polish to debut in conjunction with the March 23, 2012 release of THE HUNGER GAMES.
In keeping with the powerful themes and messages of the story, the collection of nail polish will be inspired exclusively by one of the book’s distinct settings- the Capitol of the nation of Panem. Awash in lavish fashion, food, and entertainment, Capitol citizens enjoy extreme cosmetics and body modifications, bold wigs, and outlandish costumes.
The collection of colors will be available at specialty beauty retailers beginning on March 1, 2012.

Deborah Lippmann Cuts Loose, Footloose. The Footloose Nail Polish Collection for HSN
The original Footloose is one of my all-time favorite movies. Even though coordination and grace are not attributes I possess, I love to dance and I’m a sucker for any flick involving dancing (Center Stage, Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Step Up, etc). Footloose makes it to the top my list thanks to the combination of Kevin Bacon and an awesome 80s soundtrack.
So you can imagine my horror when I heard a Footloose remake was in the works. Does Hollywood have to remake EVERYTHING? Are there no original stories left that aren’t based on actual events? I mean really! And how bad would it have been if they stuck with the original idea of a musical version of Footloose with Chase Crawford? Hairspray was bad enough. It destroyed the perverse magic of John Waters but a singing Ren McCormack would have been too much for me.
Now I’ve heard that the Footloose update isn’t as horrible as I predicted but I still won’t be forking over cash in a theater to watch it. However one good thing did come from all this; Deborah Lippmann teamed up with HSN to be a part of their Footloose Collection. She created two exclusive nail polish duos named after the songs we all remember from the original film – Almost Paradise & Footloose and Dancing In The Sheets & Let’s Hear It For The Boy.

Fall 2011 Nail Polish Trend – Bold Beautiful Blues
Are we stuck in some kind of 2007 nail polish flashback? Did Chanel Blue Satin just launch? First we talked about grey nail polish, now we’re moving onto blue. Those of you who have been reading ALU since way back in its infancy will remember that blue and grey were big nail trends for Fall 2007 and as I approach my fifth year of blogging, it’s like it’s all coming full circle.
The past couple years there has been a greater focus on greyed slate blues and teal but this time around we’re looking at a more true blue range that varies from denim to sapphire to indigo. And as brands have continued to evolve their mixing techniques we are being treated to more unique finishes and sparkle combinations than we’ve seen in the past.
